Wedlake Bell further bolsters the firm’s Private Client Group with new Partner

City law firm Wedlake Bell is pleased to announce further growth of its Private Client Group which has been strengthened by the recent addition of Partner, Matthew Braithwaite, who joins from Bircham Dyson Bell.

With over 13 years’ experience in all areas of private client matters, Matthew’s practice encompasses tax and estate planning advice to domestic and international high net worth clients. This includes advising his clients on issues such as inheritance tax, cross-border succession planning and general wealth structuring. In addition to this, Matthew has substantial expertise in advising the trustees and beneficiaries of non-UK trusts, and has particular interest in advising international clients on the ownership of UK residential property. Matthew’s legal practice is further bolstered by his background in international accountancy which enables him to provide practical and commercially sound legal and tax advice to his clients. Matthew is also the co-Chair of STEP’s Business Families Special Interest Group.

Wedlake Bell’s renowned Private Client Group is headed by Partner, Camilla Wallace, and encompasses three practices: Private Client, Family and Residential Property. With the addition of Matthew, the Group will now consist of 44 lawyers. A core practice area for the firm, the Private Client Group is long-established and well-respected within the private client industry, illustrated by its recent shortlist in the 2018/19 Private Client Awards in the category of ‘STEP Private Client Legal Team of the Year (midsize firm)’.

Commenting on his new appointment, Matthew Braithwaite, Partner, says:

“I am excited to be a part of Wedlake Bell’s impressive Private Client Group. Joining the firm was a logical next step for me to grow my own practice, especially as Wedlake Bell has an extensive client base of UK and international individuals and businesses. I want to channel the depth of expertise not only within the Group’s three practice areas but also across the firm, to provide my clients with commercial, well-rounded advice.”

Martin Arnold, Managing Partner at Wedlake Bell, comments:

“On behalf of the firm, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Matthew Braithwaite. His significant legal experience and background in tax will be a great asset to our domestic and international private clients, complementing our existing offering. At Wedlake Bell, we pride ourselves with providing our valued clients with bespoke, legally sound advice, whether it pertains to their personal or business lives.”
