Charles has specialised in trusts, probate, Wills, capital taxation, and wealth management for high net worth individuals and traditional UK private clients for the past 30+ years. In the nineties he focused on the problems of Lloyd’s onshore membership – particularly at the individual level – advising in excess of 1,000 clients over time and at action group level.

Over the years Charles has assisted numerous families to resolve family disputes relating to trust probate and inheritance matters, usually managing to engineer a satisfactory conclusion by agreement without expensive and protracted litigation.

As the firm’s COFA Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration, he is increasingly focusing his time on internal matters.

Career History

Charles qualified as a solicitor in 1972 at Wedlake Bell, became a partner in 1975 and has been head of the Private Client Team. Charles has a degree in Classics & Law from Cambridge University.

He is a member of STEP, the Law Society’s Private Client Section the Country Land Owners Association, Historic Houses Association and the Land Trusts Association.

Charles is a trustee of numerous family trusts and attorney for many private clients. He is a trustee of five private charities, a national medical charity and trustee/chairman of three pension schemes. Charles is also director of a client family property investment company and the not-for-profit UK Wolf Conservation Trust. He was a General Commissioner of Taxes for nearly 20 years until their abolition in 2009.
