Wedlake bell advises Nirvana on its cross-border acquisition of Arena, a leader in the Belgian sports insurance market
Wedlake Bell is pleased to announce that it has advised Nirvana, a UK and European speciality insurance managing general agent group headquartered in London, on its acquisition of Arena, a prominent player in the Belgian sports insurance field, providing cover to federations and clubs across both the Flemish and French-speaking regions.
More than 100 federations and 2,300 sports clubs partner with Arena, covering over 1.3 million non-professional athletes. The acquisition will expand Nirvana’s existing Sports & Leisure offerings, which sit among a growing stable of speciality lines, including Media/Tech, Cyber and Accident & Health products.
Wedlake Bell’s M&A team was led by Nigel Taylor (Partner) and supported by James French (Senior Associate) and Ben Holmes (Solicitor). Specialist corporate tax support was provided by Michael Ridsdale (Partner) and Gemma Williams (Associate). The project drew on Wedlake Bell’s extensive experience in the financial services sector; and the team’s familiarity with managing international M&A transactions.
Alongside Wedlake Bell, Nirvana received local law advice from Lydian in Belgium, and PKF undertook the financial and tax due diligence.
Nigel Taylor, who led the Wedlake Bell team, commented: “We are delighted to have been able to support Nirvana in its acquisition of Arena, and we look forward to seeing the combined business continue to grow.”
Kabir Chanrai, Chief Executive Officer of Nirvana, added “We were delighted with the Wedlake Bell team who supported us very well in this acquisition.”
