Edward Patton

Ed is a litigation associate in the IP and commercial team. Ed has experience across a wide range of commercial disputes. He advises individuals, partnerships and companies on a variety of breach of contract, professional negligence, misrepresentation, intellectual property and shareholder disputes. He has acted for clients in High Court and County Court claims concerning disputed contracts, indemnity breaches and professional negligence. Ed has acted on a number of matter involving litigation in multiple jurisdictions. His clients cover sectors including construction, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, technology and finance. He also has experience in mediating disputes in order to reach settlement.

Ed also advises on contentious intellectual property, including breaches of copyright, trade mark disputes and passing off claims. Prior to becoming a solicitor Ed worked in a disputes team at a FTSE 100 bank for four years.

• Acted for a multinational fashion brand in a negligence claim and simultaneously defended proceedings brought in Commercial Court relating to the same facts.
• Acted for an individual in relation to a claim bought under a personal indemnity. Claim stayed against client following successful application for split trial on liability issues and later settled pre-trial.
• Successfully defended proceedings brought against individual for allegedly overpaid commission after the termination of his contract. Advice concerned contract construction and Braganza duty, estoppel and natural justice.
• Acted for HNWI with respect duty of confidence claim.
• Acted for international food brand in invalidation proceedings following rival brand adopting similar branding.
