Edward Hallam

Edward specialises in real estate finance, with a particular focus on real estate-backed loans for acquisition and development projects. He initially practised in residential and commercial real estate and this twin expertise gives him insight into both aspects of such transactions. As a result, he is able to anticipate the needs and expectations of both sides on a transaction, thereby streamlining the negotiation process and aiding in reaching mutually acceptable positions on the key issues in the documentation.

Edward regularly acts for both lenders and borrowers, with clients ranging from funds and family offices to holders of investment portfolios, developers, high and ultra-high net worth individuals and foreign royalty.

He has experience on deal sizes ranging from seven to nine-figure sums. He is also experienced in deals with offshore elements, frequently acting on both the lender and borrower side on transactions that include assets and/or parties situated in Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar, the British Virgin Islands, the Republic of Ireland and New York.

• Acting for a nationwide self-storage business on a £32m refinance, restructure and expansion of its business.
• Acting for a Jersey fund on the making of real estate-backed loans in the UK SME housebuilding sector.
• Acting for a developer on an extremely complex package of three connected £75m senior and mezzanine financings to fund the acquisition and development of a super-prime London residential property.
• Acting for a lender on amendments to a £150m borrowing base facility supporting a UK real estate development funder.
• Acting for a fund in connection with a €21.5m loan to an Irish student-living developer.
• Acting for an investor on a £44m investment and acquisition facility secured over a prime London portfolio of residential and commercial premises.
