Insolvency & Restructuring Partner Robert Paterson has been featured in the August 2026 edition of Expert Witness Journal, where his article on Boult v Together Personal Finance Ltd [2026] EWHC 809 (Ch) examines the High Court’s consideration of the longstanding rule established in Pigot’s Case and its continuing relevance in modern legal practice.
In the decision, the High Court considered the effect of alterations made to a legal charge after it had been executed. The judgment reaffirmed the principle that a material alteration to a deed or similar instrument, made without the knowledge or consent of the other party, may render that document void.
