Expertise 
Gemma is an associate in the Corporate Tax team, advising on a broad range of corporate tax matters, including those arising in corporate transactions (acting for both buyer and seller), real estate-related transactions and reorganisations/restructuring.
She has experience representing both individual and corporate clients in disputes with HMRC across all UK taxes, including proceedings up to the Court of Appeal. Her work also includes acting for liquidators in insolvency-related tax fraud cases.
Experience 
- Advising the sellers on the tax aspects of the sale of a large commercial property by virtue of the sale of their units in a Jersey property unit trust.
- Providing strategic restructuring advice to an international client with a large UK-based property portfolio as part of a redevelopment in central London.
- Advising an international group on its expansion into the UK.
- Advising an offshore trust on the withholding tax consequences of international financing arrangements of UK commercial property.
- Advising a UK company on tax appeals relating to National Insurance Contributions (NICs) assessed by HMRC in connection with the secondment of employees from overseas.
- Advising the liquidators of various UK companies in connection with the tax consequences of tax fraud and the defences raised by defendants in relation to civil recovery action.
- Advising corporate and individual taxpayers on the disclosure of historical VAT errors to HMRC in connection with property-related matters.
Endorsements 
Gemma is currently studying for the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification, with a focus on VAT, stamp taxes, and corporate tax. She is also a member of The VAT Practitioners Group.
