Wedlake Bell’s top flight Art & Luxury team were pleased to present Susan Owens with the ‘Book of the Year’ award at this year’s Apollo Awards last night. Fighting off a competitive shortlist which included Steven Brindle’s ‘Architecture in Britain and Ireland‘, Iris Moon’s ‘Melancholy Wedwood‘ and Orlando Whitfield’s art dealer saga ‘All that Glitters: A story of Friendship, Fraud and Fine Art‘ Owens took the top prize for her fantastic book ‘The Story of Drawing: An Alternative History of Art‘. Her celebrated book explores the history of drawing whilst taking the reader on a whistle stop tour around the globe. With accuracy and passion, she carefully dissects everything from the history of paper through to the properties of chalk.

The awards, held this year at Home House in London, are a staple in the art world’s calendar, celebrating achievements across the industry. Other awards given last night included exhibition of the year, won by the Ethiopia at the Crossroads display at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore and Museum Opening of the Year which was awarded to The Fondation Bemberg in Toulouse.

Wedlake Bell was extremely proud to be a sponsor this year in a nod to the firm’s longstanding dedication to and support of the art world.
