Data protection for in-house lawyers
30 / 06 / 2016
James Castro-Edwards and Jonathan Wright presented a webinar for the Law Society In-House Division, on the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), and the new, enhanced EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will take effect in two years’ time and introduce heavy penalties for breaches. Data protection is increasingly becoming a crucial compliance issue for businesses to address, with potential fines increasing and a growing likelihood of enforcement action from data protection authorities as well as civil litigation from aggrieved data subjects. The webinar covered key concepts and principles of the DPA, the main changes the GDPR would introduce and how to manage the transition from DPA to GDPR. It was aimed at In-house lawyers, data protection officers, risk managers, financial directors and HR heads.
