Martin’s experience covers offices, shops and industrial buildings, the retail and leisure sectors, hotels and catering, care homes and pharmaceutical buildings. He deals with a wide variety of transactional and management work, development projects, the property aspects of corporate acquisitions and fund raising.
His clients include institutions with a traditional attitude to business and entrepreneurs who are uninhibited by convention. Martin represents investors, managers, traders, developers and occupiers and a number of overseas investors and professional clients. His current focus is with the development of care homes and institutional investors in the real estate market.
Recent Experience
- Sale of five care home investments to institutional buyers; we drafted contracts containing alternative deal structures to the buyers to accommodate their tax issues.
- Acting for an investor granting a long building lease for construction of 42 storey tower for use as student accommodation. This was the culmination of a 13 year project brought to fruition at no cost to the client.
- Managing multiple care home development projects for an off shore investor involving site acquisition, funding, construction and lettings. We bring project management skills as well as legal skills to the party.
- Managing the legal aspects of the acquisition, funding and construction of 10 care home development sites in partnership with a public authority in East Anglia.
Career History
Martin graduated in law from Wadham College Oxford in 1975 and, after teaching in Italy, qualified as a Solicitor in 1979. He was previously a partner at Fasken Martineau and Cumberland Ellis and joined Wedlake Bell from Cumberland Ellis in April 2012 when the firms merged.
