Pensions Compass – September 2017

29 / 09 / 2017

Welcome to the September 2017 edition of the Pensions Compass.

Summer has well and truly disappeared and autumn beckons! The world has gone GDPR crazy, and we’ve decided to give you a break from this topic in this edition of Pensions Compass, although our data protection expert, James Castro-Edwards, and his team remain at your disposal if you have any questions (contact details on the right).

This month’s edition of Pensions Compass includes the following articles:

• Clive’s Ready Reckoner – a summary of the hot topics coming out of parliament and the courts;

• A review of employer duties, following the IBM judgment, from the pensions and employment law perspective;

• A stark reminder from Justin about the importance of good administration following a recent Ombudsman decision where a trustee was ordered to pay £2,000 to an aggrieved member;

• A warning from Grace about the risk of prosecution for failing to comply with auto-enrolment requirements; and

• An update on proposed changes to the management of disputes and a reminder to review your IDRP.

Blair (this month’s guest author!) is a partner in our Employment team, should you have any employment related questions his contact details appear to the right.

We are delighted to welcome Michael Salters to our team, Michael is a partner with over 20 years’ experience in the pensions arena and we are very much looking forward to working with him. We’ll be roping Michael in to write a piece for the next edition of Pensions Compass.

We hope you enjoy this edition of the Pensions Compass.

If you have any questions regarding any of these topics please do get in touch.
